In the Amazon regions of Bolivia, researchers from the University of California studied a group of tribesman called the Tsimane to determine if non-competitive activities had any effect on testosterone levels.
What they wanted to know was if competition or the activity itself had the greatest effect on increasing testosterone levels.
They sampled saliva testosterone levels before and after men playing a competitive game of soccer and chopping wood.
The results came back with a whopping 48.% percent increase in testosterone levels for the men chopping wood.
For the men playing soccer, their testosterone levels only rose 17%.
